Ecology: “Court decision is big gain for groundwater protection”

Yelm and Thurston County Issues

Dan Partridge, communications manager, Water Resources Program at the WA. Dept. of Ecology states:

“The state Supreme Court has reaffirmed local governments’ obligations to ensure groundwater protection when making land use decisions.

In Kittitas County vs. EWGHMB, the court on July 28, 2011, upheld a decision of the Eastern Washington Growth Management Hearings Board that Kittitas County violated the Growth Management Act. The county was not preventing subdivision applicants from using more than one permit-exempt groundwater well per development. Washington allows the drilling of wells without a water right permit provided that groundwater withdrawals are limited to 5,000 gallons per day.

In considering Kittitas County’s appeal of the hearings board decision issued in 2007, the Supreme Court ruled that the county failed to protect groundwater resources by approving side-by-side subdivision proposals allowing developers to evade legal limits on the use of permit-exempt wells.”

Protection of existing water rights
“’This could come at a great cost to the existing water rights of nearby property owners, even those in adjoining counties, if subdivisions and developments overuse the well permit exemption contrary to law,’ the court said in a 6-3 decision.”

“Water Resources Program Manager Maia Bellon said counties’ obligations in determining the “legal availability” of water in addition to the “physical availability” of water when making land use decisions is nothing new.”

Land-use decisions, water availability linked
“‘The decision recognizes the critical importance of marrying land-use decision-making with water supply and its availability. Those are and should be inextricably linked,’ Maia said in news stories following the ruling.”

JZ Knight interviewed on Coast to Coast AM

Yelm and Thurston County Issues

On Sunday, August 14 from 11PM – 2AM PDT,
“Guest host Rob Simone was joined by Founder and President of Ramtha’s School of Enlightenment, JZ Knight, for a discussion about her experiences connected with the channeling of a 35,000 year old warrior from the lost continent of Atlantis, called Ramtha. Knight detailed how she first began channeling this being and how that relationship has evolved over the last three decades. She explained that, initially, people misunderstood her experience, thinking she was a medium. To that end, Knight credited Ramtha with creating the term “channeling,” in the 1980’s, as a way of differentiating what was happening with her, since, when she channels Ramtha, he actually takes over her brain and she leaves her body.”

“Knight shared a number of predictions and insights which she has learned from Ramtha over the years.”

“Knight also imparted some steps that people can take to bring enlightenment into their lives. She advised that they first ask themselves if they are “ready for a future.” From there, they should write down the statement “I have always lived the future, now.” She said that focusing on those words and saying them slowly three times will result in a “jazz energy feeling” in one’s head. So powerful is this process, Knight claimed, that “you will see how your life will change in one day.” Additionally, she suggested using statements like “I have always been,” followed by a specific goal, such as increased intelligence or improved health. Knight contended that using these techniques, over time, would result in dramatic changes in a person’s life. “You have nothing to lose, except your past,” she marveled,” quoting the show’s website.

Special Screening at Yelm Cinemas: Farmageddon – the Movie

Upcoming Events

At the request of JZ Knight, Yelm Cinemas manager Howard Christian says his theater is proud to present to Yelm & vicinity a Special Screening of
“Farmageddon – The Movie” in Yelm July 30th.

OPEN TO THE PUBLIC AT YELM CINEMAS SATURDAY, JULY 30 AT 9AM ONLY…

“Americans’ right to access fresh, healthy foods of their choice is under attack. Farmageddon tells the story of small, family farms that were providing safe, healthy foods to their communities and were forced to stop, sometimes through violent ac-tion, by agents of misguided government bureaucracies, and seeks to figure out why.

Filmmaker Kristin Canty’s quest to find healthy food for her four children turned into an educational journey to discover why access to these foods was being threatened. What she found were policies that favor agribusiness and factory farms over small family-operated farms selling fresh foods to their communities.”

On Monday, July 4, 2011, Dr. Brian Greene addressed Ramtha’s School of Enlightenment summer retreat in Yelm and live-streamed to students throughout the world with his talk titled The Hidden Reality.

About Dr. Greene:
“Physicist, string theorist and author of The Elegant Universe Brian Greene is one of the world’s leading theoretical physicists and a brilliant, entertaining communicator of cutting-edge scientific concepts. The Washington Post described him as “the single best explainer of abstruse concepts in the world today.”

In The Elegant Universe Greene recounted how the theories of general relativity and quantum mechanics transformed our understanding of the universe, and introduced us to string theory, a concept that might be the key to a unified theory of the universe. The book sold more than a million copies and became an Emmy and Peabody Award-winning NOVA special that Greene hosted.

His second book, The Fabric of the Cosmos, spent 6 months on The New York Times bestseller list and is currently being adapted into a 4-part NOVA miniseries slated for broadcast in 2011.

His third book, Icarus at the Edge of Time is a futuristic retelling of the Icarus myth, in which a boy travels not to the Sun by to a black hole. This visually stunning fable for children has recently been adapted for stage presentation with an orchestral score by Philip Glass, and premiered Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall.

Greene’s latest book, Hidden Reality: Parallel Universes and The Deep Laws of the Cosmos (Jan. 2011), explores the strange and exciting possibility that our universe may be one of many populating a grand “multiverse”.

Greene has had many media appearances, from Nightline and Charlie Rose to The Late Show with David Letterman, and has made cameo appearances in the films Frequency, Maze, and The Last Mimzy.

A graduate of Harvard and a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford, Greene is a professor in both Physics and Mathematics at Columbia University. The World Science Festival, co-founded by Greene, premiered in New York City in the spring of 2008 as an annual celebration of science that brings together great minds in science, business, government, and the arts.”

JZ Knight responds to NVN editorial

Yelm and Thurston County Issues

This Letter to the Editor was submitted on June 9 in response to an editorial by Nisqually Valley News Publisher/Editor Keven Graves he published on June 3:

Dear Editor:

As reported by the Associated Press* and numerous other media outlets, the Thurston County Sheriff’s office has ruled the death of Sally Paulsen as an unfortunate accident. In your June 3 editorial, why did you insinuate that Sally died under unusual circumstances? In the news article in the same issue, why did the reporter prematurely draw inappropriate and unsubstantiated conclusions between Sally and Ramtha’s School of Enlightenment?

I consider all the students in this school so very unique, rare, and such a gift to their family, friends, and community that the loss of such a precious student as Sally hurts my heart.

An NVN reporter called my staff on May 25 at 11 a.m. for comment before the Sheriff released Sally’s name or any of the circumstances surrounding her death. For my staff to “not comment” before the facts were made public by the Sheriff’s office was totally appropriate and respectful. Your criticism of me and/or my spokesperson for not offering condolences at that time was unreasonable given that Sally’s body had not yet been identified. Also, to correlate this School’s food storage practices with Sally’s death prior to the release of the information from the Sheriff’s office would have been imprudent speculation, as stated by my staff.

If an NVN reporter wanted information about RSE’s food storage practices, a two-second online search with the words “Ramtha, food storage” would list many pages of links about this School’s practices. Click here for Ramtha’s thoughts about food storage: http://www.ramtha.com/newsletter/vol5/issue4/SP3.html

Finally, my spokesperson was in contact with the executor of Sally’s estate immediately after the Sheriff identified her body, and my staff has been supportive of all efforts to assist her friends and family. The fact that our press release did not reach you in time for your print deadline is no excuse for your reckless statement.

Tacoma News Tribune’s editorial on JZ Knight vs. City of Yelm

Yelm and Thurston County Issues

Tacoma News Tribune editorial writer Cheryl Tucker published an editorial in Inside Opinion June 9 titled “Knight’s water war with Yelm is one worth fighting.

Tucker stated:
“Ramtha may or may not have been a great warrior 35,000 years ago, but his purported modern incarnation – New Age guru JZ Knight – is fighting a good fight of her own.

“Knight, whose 80-acre estate and Ramtha School of Enlightenment is just outside Yelm city limits in Thurston County, has been battling in court for four years to prevent five housing developments from going in nearby.”

“Knight’s argument: that Yelm had overestimated its ability to provide water to the developments, and so would be forced to drain water from sources where she owns senior water rights.”

“Knight and the DOE make an excellent point: Those questions need to be answered way in advance – before development plans are finalized. If local governments can’t prove they have enough water to accommodate the new growth, then they shouldn’t permit it.”

Tacoma News Tribune’s front-page story on JZ Knight vs. City of Yelm

Yelm and Thurston County Issues

Tacoma News Tribune staff writer Sean Robinson wrote an in-depth report titled “JZ Knight’s bid to halt development heard by state’s Supreme Court.
Note: The print edition was titled “JZ Knight proves to be a warrior vs. development”

Robinson stated:
“Neighbors often groan about the new housing developments next door. Typically, that’s all they do – but JZ Knight, 65, is no ordinary neighbor. She’s started an argument that could change the rules of local land-use planning throughout the state, and she’s determined to finish it.”

“If Knight prevails, the legal precedent could echo across the state, especially in rural communities where water is scarce. Owners of senior water rights could halt development in its tracks.”

Knight has previously stated “to halt development” was not her intent. Knight’s case was about “the City of Yelm’s attempt to approve five proposed new developments without adequate proof of a sufficient water supply.”

JZ Knight presented evidence at five public hearings showing that the City of Yelm’s water rights are not adequate to serve five proposed Yelm subdivisions.
